The SESAR Joint Undertaking has announced the 15th edition of the SESAR Innovation Days (SIDs) for air traffic management research, which will take place in Slovenia from 1 – 4 December, 2025. Registrations to the event will open in September 2025.
Set against the backdrop of Lake Bled, this year’s SIDs will again bring together researchers, industry professionals, and academics to share forward-looking ideas and breakthrough research shaping the future of aviation.
In addition to the conference programme, attendees will have the opportunity to visit operational SESAR partners, including Pipistrel and Slovenia Control.
SESAR is inviting submissions for papers, posters, and technical exhibits from across the ATM and aviation research community, including universities, research centres, ANSPs, airports, airlines, and industry. Contributions will be evaluated on their innovative approach, scientific merit, and potential impact. The deadline for submissions is 15 September.
The event will also host the SESAR Young Scientist Award, recognising outstanding contributions by early-career researchers in ATM and aviation-related fields. Last year, the top honour in the PhD category was awarded to Yutong Chen from Cranfield University for his innovative research on strategic and tactical conflict management, particularly focusing on both crewed and uncrewed operations using reinforcement learning. The jury praised his work as significantly advancing the state of the art in conflict resolution techniques. In the student category, Samuel Christian Heilein from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) won first place for his impactful work on radar altimetry characterisation, contributing to safer and more precise uncrewed traffic management.
