Poland updates rules for drone flights near airports

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) has updated its rules for conducting drone flights in high-risk geographical zones of civil airports (DRA-R CTR zones).

The new regulations specify flights in the open category up to 120 m AGL, flights around obstacles and the use of specific classes assigned to uncrewed aerial systems (UAS).

A pilot who is competent to fly in accordance with standard (STS) scenarios, after submitting a mission plan, may perform SBSP operations in the open category between 1-6 km from the airport boundary above 50m; and above 6 km from the airport boundary above 100m AGL.

Only UAS pilots who are competent to perform flights in the A1/A3 subcategory are authorised to perform UAS operations in DRA-R CTR zones.

Operations can only be performed with UAS equipped with the Fail-Safe / RTH unmanned aircraft control system function, which is activated automatically in the event of flight irregularities or can be activated in any phase of flight by the UAS pilot.

The minimum UAS parameters are: minimum descent speed of 1.5 m/s and minimum horizontal flight speed of 4 m/s. Both parameters must be achievable regardless of prevailing weather conditions. Flights cannot be conducted in the presence of strong winds or gusts that prevent these values from being achieved.
