Poland announces locations of drone project competence centres

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) has selected the winners of the competition to establish competence centres for managing uncrewed air traffic in Poland.

The competence centres will be technological environments enabling the implementation of dynamic and advanced uncrewed aerial system (UAS) flights on a mass scale within the space allocated to each centre.

According to the competition rules, submitted areas were evaluated in six main categories. These included the specificity of the airspace and location of the submitted area, population density, infrastructure, cooperation with the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA), and economic conditions. The drone market also assessed the potential of the candidates through voting via the National Drone Information System online. This resulted in selecting one winner from each of the five defined geographic areas, as well as four additional winners with the next highest score.

Area winners:

  • SE Area – Competence Center of the Municipality of the City of Krosno and Partner Municipalities
  • SW Area – Drone Competence Center of the Upper Odra
  • NE Area – Olsztyn, Barczewo
  • Area C – Przasnysz Economic Zone
  • NW Area – Strzelce Krajeńskie

Other winners with the highest number of points:

  • Subcarpathia Area 1
  • Lower Silesian Air Zone of UAVs
  • Stalowa Wola Competence Centre
  • Bytom-Zabrze area

PANSA does not rule out signing contracts with other selected competition participants who received favourable merit-based evaluations. Below is the reserve list of winners:

  • Municipality of the City of Rzeszów
  • Turośń Kościelna
  • Academic Gliding Center of the Rzeszów University of Technology in Bezmiechowa

“We sincerely thank all participants for participating in the competition, and congratulate the winners,” said Michał Caban, General Project Manager of the UAS programme office at the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. “After analysing the submitted applications, it’s safe to say that the competition was of a very high standard and the competition was fierce. This high level of interest demonstrates the dynamic potential of the Polish drone market. In the coming days, we will begin the process of signing cooperation agreements, which will take approximately 21 days. According to the regulations, if any of the winners withdraw from signing the agreement, we will contact the other units that participated in the competition.”

PANSA also plans to establish training centres in some of the areas nominated by the winners. Information on planned activities in this area will be published at a later date.
