Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Science and Technology has begun testing drone deliveries as part of a regulatory sandbox. The first controlled tests have been carried out in cooperation with the Saigon Hi-Tech Park Management Board and technology firms Saolatek, Real-time Robotics Vietnam and Di Dong Viet.
Two flights on January 5 tested remote supervision, flight stability and safety as well as the transportation of small items.
The team has secured a flight permit from the Ministry of National Defense for the pilot programme, which is valid until the end of 2026, with the ultimate goal of introducing longer distance delivery flights within the city and its environs.
