FAA seeks public/industry feedback on drone delivery environmental impact

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced the availability of, and requests comments on, the draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) related to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) (drone) package delivery operations in the United States.

According to the FAA:

“The proposed action analyzed in the draft PEA is drone operators conducting commercial drone package deliveries under 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 135. This review is part of Congress’s mandate to integrate drones into the NAS while ensuring operations are safe, efficient, and sustainable. Under the proposed action, commercial drone delivery companies are expected to partner with existing businesses to set up hubs in parking lots, rooftops, or other designated spaces. The operations can occur seven days per week and 24 hours per day, although the FAA expects most deliveries would occur between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The exact locations of the proposed hubs and operating areas are currently unknown and will not be known until an operator applies for approvals to operate under Part 135.”

Comments are required before January 8, 2026.
