ENAC and partners review Prime Air delivery project

Key stakeholders have met to review the progress of the Prime Air drone delivery project in Italy.

The meeting, which took place in San Salvo, in the province of Chieti, was attended by national Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) President Pierluigi Di Palma, ENAC General Director Alexander D’Orsogna, Amazon Prime Air Vice President & General Manager David Carbon, Abruzzo Region President Marco Marsilio, and Molise Region President Francesco Roberti. Also present were Abruzzo Region Councilor for Productive Activities Tiziana Magnacca, Abruzzo Regional Councilor Francesco Prospero, and Molise Region Councilor for Public Works Michele Marone.

“We are increasingly moving toward a concept of sustainable and innovative air mobility,” stated ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma, “Everything is at the service of the community and its citizens for a world interconnected on multiple levels. This includes not only drone deliveries, which can reach disadvantaged and hard-to-reach areas quickly and easily, but also the development of a broader interconnection network.”

Marco Marsilio, President of the Abruzzo Region, said the collaboration with ENAC, Prime Air and regional institutions is “building an ecosystem that looks to the future of sustainable mobility and can create new economic, employment, and research opportunities in our region”.

The President of the Molise Region, Francesco Roberti, added that the implementation of innovative mobility solutions is essential for a region like Molise. “This project will help us strengthen connections between territories and overcome the limitations of traditional land transport. It represents a concrete opportunity to improve accessibility in our region while respecting environmental sustainability. There is a spirit of fruitful collaboration with the Abruzzo Region, and we are delighted to be part of this experiment together.” Roberti said he would not rule out the possibility that this new technology could also be applied to other sectors.

In December 2024, San Salvo became the first test area in Europe for Amazon’s Prime Air deliveries with drones.
