Amazon begins Prime Air deliveries in San Antonio

Regional news networks are reporting the launch of Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery service in San Antonio, Texas.

The service is designed for quick deliveries within a seven to eight-mile radius of Amazon’s East Side facility at 6806 Cal Turner Drive, CultureMap San Antonio reports.

The article notes that when Amazon requested a zoning change to its East Side facility to accommodate the service’s logistics, there were concerns that the policy implications had not been thoroughly explored.

“Amazon, however, did ease safety concerns,” CultureMap continues. “Before making a drop, the drones will check for obstructions and send a notification to customers if there is no safe delivery space. The crafts also will not fly at night or under severe weather conditions.”

In Texas, a Prime Air service is also operational in Waco, but drone deliveries in College Station (one of the early test markets) have been discontinued.

Meanwhile, local media in Michigan report that the service is now available in the Pontiac area with the Hazel Park region expected to join the programme soon.
