AIRmarket and OneSky test cooperative UTM in Edmonton

AIRmarket Inc. and OneSky UTM have conducted live interoperability testing in Edmonton that demonstrated the foundations of cooperative Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) in Canadian airspace. The testing was conducted through the iART Alliance operational evaluation, with support from Transport Canada and NAV CANADA.

The tests demonstrated federated UTM interoperability using the InterUSS Discovery and Synchronization Service (DSS) in alignment with ASTM F3548. AIRmarket said in a LinkedIn post that the results showed that UTM systems “can interoperate in a federated manner, rather than operate in isolation; that cooperative UAS airspace intelligence can be established, synchronised and trusted; and that UTM-enabled airspace can support public-safety, wildfire and infrastructure missions at scale.”

The UTM-enabled airspace directly supports planned Drone as First Responder (DFR) testing, enabling rapid, repeatable emergency response operations.

As Edmonton expands its drone operations and begins to implement the capabilities of UTM services, the trials will scale across the Greater Edmonton Region.
