Following the election of Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the subsequent swearing-in of the new ministers and the handover of responsibilities in the various federal ministries, the Germany-based Association for Unmanned Aviation (UAV DACH) has written a letter to the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Ministry of Transport, and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
The letter notes that the planned transfer of responsibility for the promotion of U-spaces and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) to the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space as part of the restructuring of departmental responsibilities “could slow down the development of the UAS/AAM industry and, in the worst case, completely halt it”. UAV DACH is concerned that the allocation of responsibilities for individual UAS/AAM topics could lead to significant difficulties for both the affected federal ministries and the German aviation industry.
“With the LF 19 – Future of Aviation department, an organizational structure was created within the Federal Ministry of Transport to create a meaningful framework for the future UAS/AAM industry,” UAV DACH said in its letter. “The transfer of responsibilities to another federal ministry would result in increased coordination requirements and regulatory friction. Given Germany’s position as a hub for aviation and the importance of unmanned systems for the economy, society, and defense, the Federal Republic cannot and should not allow any slowdown of processes in this area.”
