Project Griffin transports blood samples by drone for the first time

Medical drone logistics programme Project Griffin has successfully transported real blood samples in Luxembourg for the first time. The team carried out the first beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights in October 2024, but without carrying medical samples.

The mission included a flight on May 7 from Laboratoires Reunis in Junglinster to the Hôpitaux Robert Schuman at Kirchberg, during which the project team continuously monitored temperature, humidity, light exposure, and vibrations. The route was the same as the BVLOS test flights.

On May 13, Project Griffin reported that the temperature and humidity remained stable throughout the flight, no significant vibrations were detected (less than in a car) and light exposure was within safe parameters.

“This successful operation highlights the reliability and gentleness of drone transport for sensitive medical materials,” the project team said.
