LBA certifies AVILUS as a light UAS operator

AVILUS has been certified by the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrtbundesamt, LBA) as a Light UAS Operator (LUC) in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/947, Annex Part C. AVILUS is the third company in Germany to receive this certification and it expects to expand its drones-as-a-service offering as a result.

A LUC allows drone operators to self-authorise new flight areas or with advanced privileges to self-adjust procedures, drone types, or operational methods independently from the LBA. Unlike a standard Operational Authorisation, the LUC transfers authorisation privileges to the operator, which can be continuously expanded over time.

Obtaining the LUC requires the establishment of similar organisational roles, bodies, and structures as those needed for an Air Operator Certificate. The structure resembles that of an airline and requires, in addition to nominated personnel (postholders), management systems for safety, compliance and for managing the granted privileges.

As part of the certification process, all AVILUS postholders were interviewed by the LBA. The two-day audit covered the company’s organisational structure, personnel, and processes as well as the regulatory compliance of its flight activities.
