Bluenest by Globalvia officially presented the first pilot project for urgent medical delivery by drone in La Gomera, Canary Islands yesterday (May 26).
The team successfully carried out a demonstration flight between San Sebastián hospital and Playa Santiago health centre, reducing the travelling time from 45 minutes by road to 10 minutes by air. The operation, monitored by Globalvia’s vertiport control centre was streamed in real-time and accompanied by a detailed explanation of the project, its routes and its benefits.
The project is supported by the Cabildo (council) de La Gomera, Proexca and Servicio Canario de Salud (Canary Islands health service) as well as Globalvia and Openvia Mobility. It is part of the council’s broader strategy to position La Gomera as a reference hub for the development of aeronautical and aerospace technologies. With its particular terrain, non-congested airspace, geographical contrasts and ideal environmental conditions, Globalvia says the island is emerging as “a natural laboratory for innovation and is a perfect site to explore this new mobility”.
