Garuda Aerospace to develop Drone City to drive India’s drone sector

Indian drone manufacturer Garuda Aerospace has announced a Rs 100 crore investment (approximately EUR 1 billion) for the development of a ‘Drone City’ in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

The initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will focus on uncrewed traffic management (UTM), beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and other regulations to drive innovation in the industry.

Garuda Aerospace said it has already received six operational approvals from the Ministry.

On January 31, Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, said India has around 30,000 drones in operation with plans to increase the number to 300,000 by 2047. Speaking at a conference organised by the Aeronautical Society of India, he added that the government will reduce import duties on components that would promote domestic drone production.
