Frequentis has joined the Hamburg-based BLU-Space project, which is aiming to create the first Germany-wide test airspace for a complete drone traffic management system, or U-space, enabling automated beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone flights coordinated by a secure digital system. Within the framework of BLU-Space, authorities, emergency control centers, and transport companies will be integrated into the system.
Funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport, Urban and Regional Development (BMV), BLU-Space relies on collaboration between diverse stakeholders. Frequentis specialises in communication and information systems and will assume the role of Single Common Information Service Provider (SCISP) in the project. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, which was originally intended to assume this role, will continue to contribute its expertise to BLU-Space as a partner.
A central element of the project is the connection of a SCISP, which provides safety-relevant airspace and traffic information to U-Space Service Providers (USSPs). This data is essential for coordinating drone flights safely and efficiently.
Frequentis has extensive experience in the integration of uncrewed traffic management systems and will play a key role in shaping the development of U-Space in Hamburg.
