FAA authorises Osmose Utilities for nationwide BVLOS operations

Osmose Utilities Services has secured a US Federal Aviation Administration waiver to perform uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).

With the BVLOS waiver, Osmose’s aerial inspection teams can now remotely cover much larger geographic areas when inspecting electric utility infrastructure without requiring continuous visual tracking of the drone.

Osmose deploys UAS equipped with high-resolution optical cameras, infrared sensors, LiDAR, and other advanced technologies to capture data on utility assets. The BVLOS capability enables broader data collection per flight and reduces field time.

The authorisation is not geographically constrained and can be applied to Class G airspace across the United States.
