Leaders from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) have recently met with counterparts in north and south America to discuss future airspace users and advanced air mobility (AAM).
On August 5, ENAC Director General, Alexander D’Orsogna; ENAC Director of Technological Innovation, Giovanni Di Antonio; Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Deputy Administrator, Chris Rocheleau; and the heads of the Office of Commercial Space Transportation (AST) met in Washington. They discussed strategic issues of mutual interest for the future of aviation and aerospace transportation including vertiports and AAM infrastructure, spaceports and suborbital flight and supersonic flight.
Various collaboration opportunities were discussed and a Letter of Intent on spaceports and suborbital spacecraft was signed to continue the implementation of an agreement that has been in place since 2014. The US and Italian parties also stressed the importance of developing good practices for vertiports and non-certified airports,
An “increasingly strong cooperation between ENAC and the FAA to jointly promote innovation in the aerospace sector and AAM” was agreed at the meeting.
The following day, ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma and National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) Director-President Adriano Miranda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU strengthens relations between the two authorities, and aims, in particular, to promote the development of aeronautical training programmes, the adoption of shared standards for safety, security and airworthiness, as well as regulatory alignment in favour of AAM.
