COLLARIS2, an EU-funded project that focuses on the use of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) in the field of civil protection and disaster management, is to hold its first trial later this month.
The trial, in Prudnik, southern Poland on June 11-12, will focus on firefighting in mountainous terrain and determine the air traffic management challenges for these operations.
The two-day event will offer an opportunity to test various UAS solutions, such as the AIDERS system developed by KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence. This system develops application-specific algorithms and a novel mapping platform to harness the large volume of data that first responders are now able to collect through different sensors.
The COLLARIS2 trial is part of a larger exercise organised by the Polish State Fire Service. Recent wildfire events in Poland will be discussed, including the role of UAS in fighting these fires.
