EuroUSC-Benelux, which supports companies in obtaining operating permits for the use of drones, has announced that Avisum has today used a drone-in-a-box system for volume calculations, following the granting of an operating license.
Avisum is part of the PS-Survey Groep and complements the group’s surveying and hydrographic services with aerial observations. The drone is controlled from the control room at Avisum’s Belgium facility, while the flight takes place “a few tens of kilometres away” beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).
“The flight presented a major challenge as it took place in uncontrolled airspace, in the vicinity of several active geozones where manned flights occur regularly,” said EuroUSC-Benelux, which helped Avisum achieve the license and supports the project. “We use SkeyDrone ‘s flight information service, which makes aircraft more visible to our drone pilots.”
With the new license, Avisum is now able to take regular measurements without having to physically go to the locations. Customers can also request additional measurements. In addition, the customers’ ground operations do not have to be shut down, and employees are no longer exposed to risks while carrying out the measurements.
