The UK government’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has launched Phase 2 (Cycle 6) of its themed competition Innovation in Support of Operations, which includes a call for drone defeat solutions.
The competition, run on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, is looking for innovative proposals that are cost competitive, designed for manufacture and can be scaled in an approximate twelve-month timeframe.
The drone defeat challenge seeks novel proposals that can integrate with and take a track from an air defence command and control system. The solution should then subsequently acquire the target drone, generate a more accurate threat vector and direct an effector towards it such that it can be destroyed. The effector should be ground launched.
“An indicative target could be a fixed wing platform of approximately 3m in size, operating at 150 – 400 km/h at 1000 – 15000m altitude and constructed of modern materials such as carbon fibre and fibreglass,” DASA’s competition document states. Solutions that can be adapted to changes in threat systems and operating environments are of particular interest.
Launched on August 21, the competition will close on October 14.
