Smart Shooter, AeroVironment win JIATF-401 C-UAS contracts

The US Department of War has announced a contract, valued at USD6.1 million, for the purchase of 210 SmartShooter Smash 2000LE systems and one AeroVironment Titan Cerberus XL system, to protect US bases and installations from drone attacks.

“We need a layered defense that includes distributed sensing, the ability to track in real time, and capabilities to engage with both non-kinetic and kinetic countermeasures,” said Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, task force director. “This purchase does not solve that problem, but it’s a step in the right direction.”

Additionally, two radar systems have been assigned to support the National Capital Region in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, enhancing the region’s ability to detect and counter emerging UAS threats. Ross said this strategic move strengthens local defense capabilities, ensuring that critical infrastructure remains protected.

“In support of this reconfiguration, JIATF 401 is also advancing the integration of the Lattice system, a cutting-edge, tactical user interface for command-and-control of counter-UAS that links sensors and effectors across installations and agencies,” said the department. “This integration will boost response times and strengthen national defense, enabling more agile and effective counter-UAS operations.

Smart Shooter has announced that the base contract, valued at approximately USD2.4 million, includes the supply of SMASH 2000LE fire control systems, along with associated spare parts and training. The contract also includes options for additional systems, spare parts, and training valued at approximately $2.3 million,” said the company in a press release.

“This order marks Smart Shooter’s first contract with JIATF-401, further expanding the company’s activity with the U.S. Department of War and enabling U.S. military services to acquire SMASH fire control systems, including SMASH 2000LE, SMASH X4, and SMASH Hopper 5000, through the task force’s Market-Place acquisition channel. The systems are intended to support operational counter-small unmanned aerial system requirements.”
