Poland “building a USD2 billion anti-drone wall on Eastern border”

Multiple media reports say Poland has started the first stage of installing a USD2 billion multi-layered counter-UAS (C-UAS) defence system on its eastern border.

Poland has installed the first cluster of an artillery defence system on a new observation tower in Ozierany, near the Polish-Belarusian border, as part of efforts to strengthen security against threats from unmanned aerial vehicles, officials said Tuesday,” according to Euronews.

According to the UK’s Guardian newspaper, Deputy Defence Minister, Cezary Tomczyk has said the first capabilities of the system in will be completed in around six months and will take two years to complete.

“He noted that the new air defence systems would be integrated into an older line of defence built a decade ago, adding that the system would include multiple layers of protection, including machine guns, cannons, missiles, and drone-jamming systems,” said the newspaper. “In September, more than 10 Russian drones violated Polish airspace. The incident led to airport closures, fighter jets being scrambled, and damage to buildings on the ground as a result of drones being shot down. Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski told The Guardian at the time that the attacks, involving drones without warheads, were an attempt by Russia “to test us without starting a war.”
