Netherlands seeks systems to detect and intercept large drones

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence yesterday (March 2) launched a new counter-drone challenge. EUR 30 million has been allocated for the competition.

Companies are being invited to develop systems to detect and intercept tactical drones weighing between 150 and 400 kilograms and flying at speeds of up to 600 kilometres per hour. Manufacturers of the successful solutions could potentially enter into a long-term partnership with the Ministry.

The challenge is open to European companies capable of developing and manufacturing the new systems with preference given to Dutch companies.

This challenge is part of the Action Plan for Production Reliability of Unmanned Systems (APOS). Within APOS, all defence departments collaborate to ensure that the Ministry of Defence always has modern and reliable systems. An ecosystem of high-tech companies is being formed to accelerate production.
