MBDA has signed its first export contract with a Middle Eastern country to provide its SKY WARDEN counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) technology.
SKY WARDEN, which earned MBDA the Frontex (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) C-UAS Prize 2025, is a scalable, multi-layer system designed to protect an area from micro to tactical drones, up to eight kilometres away. It is effectively an upgrade of an MBDA developed multi-sensor and multi-effector command and control (C2) system, which enables the detection, identification and classification of threats through use of artificial intelligence.
SKY WARDEN offers a range of effectors designed to counter and destroy enemy drones, such as the CILAS HELMA-P laser weapon, omni and directional jammers, MBDA HTK (Hit-to-Kill) drone interceptors and MISTRAL 3 missile. Sensors and effectors are chosen according to their capabilities and the application’s requirements.
As a modular system, SKY WARDEN can adapt to changing needs. It protects fixed sites or can be vehicle-mounted for mobile protection. It may also be integrated with other medium-range air defence capabilities.

The Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts.
