Thales will provide two additional Ground Master 400 alpha (GM400α) radars to reinforce Malaysia’s situational awareness. These additional radars will bring the total number of GM400 to four in the country.
The GM400α are intended to enhance air surveillance capabilities for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), enabling threat detection within a 515 km range. The GM400α is designed to simultaneously detect targets and is suitable for use against drones flying close to the ground.
Thales will partner with Malaysian enterprise Weststar Group to install and deploy the radars in line with the terrain and operational requirements of the RMAF, in Peninsular and Eastern Malaysia. Through Industrial Cooperation Programmes (ICPs), Thales will provide maintenance and support of the GM400α radars throughout their lifecycle as well as training to help build Malaysia’s future generation of radar experts.
