Around 25% of Lithuania’s military procurement budget in 2026 is allocated to air defence and airspace surveillance, according to a post on X by the country’s defence department. “Radar networks are expanding, counter-drone systems are being deployed, and systems like NASAMS, MSHORAD & VSHORAD Piorun are arriving.”
Saab is providing Mobile Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) systems integrated on JLTV vehicles and Kongsberg NASAMS medium-range systems are also being acquired. In October 2024, Lithuania signed an EUR 234 million contract for additional NASAMS medium-range systems to enhance existing coverage, with deliveries expected in April 2026 for the 1st Division.
Poland’s APS is supplying counter-UAS systems while Spain has deployed Indra Crow C-UAS equipment to Šiauliai Air Base, to enhance NATO’s eastern flank protection against potential drone threats from Russia and Belarus.
