According to multiple press reports Leonardo plans to test elements of its advanced integrated defence system Michelangelo in Ukraine by the end of this year and testing in NATO member states is expected to begin in 2027. This was announced on Thursday, March 12, by the company’s CEO Roberto Cingolani, say the reports.
Michelangelo Dome is a networked system integrating next-generation land, naval, airborne and space sensors, cyber-defence platforms, command-and-control systems, artificial intelligence and coordinated effectors. “The platform creates a dynamic security dome capable of detecting, tracking and neutralising threats even in the event of large-scale attacks, across all operational domains: aerial and missile threats – including hypersonic missiles and drone swarms – surface and subsurface attacks at sea, and hostile ground forces.” According to the company.
“Thanks to advanced data fusion from multiple sensors and the use of predictive algorithms, Michelangelo Dome can anticipate hostile activity, optimise operational responses, and automatically coordinate the most suitable effectors. The infrastructure is designed to be open, meaning fully compatible with the defensive assets and platforms of other nations and compliant with NATO standards.”
