The US Air Force’s Eglin Base says “drone-like aircraft” will be flying in and around the flightline from May 29 until June 5 as part of a base training mission to improve awareness of uncrewed aerial system (UAS) threats.
The exercise is designed to increase base population education on how to identify the threat of unauthorised UAS activity and respond appropriately.
“During this event, anyone who sees drone-like aircraft is encouraged to call 96th Security Force Squadron at (850) 882-2000 to report drone-like aircraft,” the Air Force’s Public Affairs Office said on May 27.
A dedicated counter-UAS working group was established at Eglin seven months ago. This team has been developing standardised reporting procedures and response protocols for unauthorised drone activity. Insights gained from the upcoming event will inform future improvements to the base’s drone defence posture and contribute to broader US Department of Defense initiatives.
