Drones spotted over Dutch military airfields and Eindhoven Airport

The Dutch Ministry of Defence took action over the weekend after drones were spotted at several military airfields and at Eindhoven Airport.

“Drones flew over Volkel Air Base on Friday and Saturday evenings,” the ministry said. “Air Force personnel deployed weapons from the ground, after which the drones departed. On Saturday evening, civilian and military air traffic at Eindhoven Airport was halted for several hours after drones were spotted there. The Ministry of Defence also took measures there.”

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and the police have been notified and are conducting further investigations.

It is currently unclear why the drones were flying above and around the air bases, and, for security reasons, the Ministry of Defence is not providing further information about how the drones were sighted or what action was taken.
