Diehl Defence launches new integrated mobile C-UAS system GARMR

Diehl Defence has relaunched its mobile counter-UAV system ‘Kinetic Defence Vehicle’ (KDV) at this year’s Enforce Tac taking place from February 23 to 25 in Nürnberg. The system will in future operate under the new name ‘GARMR’ (watchdog from Nordic mythology). The new system features the integration of new types of interceptor drones and an AI-supported detection and decision-making architecture.

“GARMR is designed as a hybrid, modular system with a wide range of applications. It is suitable for the protection of critical civilian infrastructure (e.g. buildings or events) as well as for operation in high-intensity military combat scenarios,” said the company in a press statement. “This flexibility results from the parallel use of two interceptor drone technologies: GARMR SRS (Short Range System) uses the CICADA interceptor drone with a catch net or warhead, while GARMR MRS (Medium Range System) additionally neutralizes targets with innovative interceptor drones. However, further effectors can be integrated for both ranges so that the system can be optimally adapted to the situation: from precise, controlled impact in sensitive civilian environments to performance optimized defence against complex military threats, even over longer distances.

“Another key element of the relaunch of GARMR is the AI-supported detection, identification and prioritization of air targets. Modern algorithms automatically analyze sensor data, classify threats and support decision making.
