C-UAS included in US lawmakers’ proposal to increase defence spending

The United States House and Senate Armed Services Committees have unveiled legislation to invest USD 150 billion in defence to modernise the military and strengthen national security.

Counter-drone and other air defence measures feature strongly in the proposal. These include USD 350 million for the development, production and integration of non-kinetic C-UAS programmes as well as USD 250 million for land-based C-UAS and USD 200 million for ship-based C-UAS.

Further investment is proposed for a hypersonic test bed programme, directed energy development and space-based capabilities as well as for the ‘golden dome’ missile defence system.

The bill will next be sent to the House Budget Committee to help form the full reconciliation bill.
