Base Operations wins AFWERX contract to protect air force bases with AI C-UAS systems

The US Air Force’s AFWERX unit, which connects fast-changing technologies to the requirements of the air force, has awarded a Direct-to-Phase II (D2P2) contract to Base Operations to build a new threat visualization tool “that helps protect missions and improve warfighter readiness. The tool will combine public and private data to map out real-time security threats—giving military leaders faster and smarter ways to make decisions,” said AFWERX in a Linkedin post.

“Air Mobility Command (AMC), which handles global airlift, refueling, and aeromedical evacuation, is the lead customer. The new platform will help AMC spot potential threats early, improve risk assessments, and boost situational awareness across its missions,” said the organisation.

“Our platform enhances force protection by anticipating and mitigating risks around critical installations, safeguarding personnel, and effectively countering adversarial foreign espionage,” said Cory Siskind, Founder & CEO at Base Operations, in a press release. “By equipping decision-makers with AI-driven insights, we help strengthen operational resilience and ensure mission success in complex and dynamic environments.”

The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and eliminating bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution.
