Copenhagen, Oslo airports temporarily shut after rogue drone sightings

The Danish government today said that drones that halted flights at Copenhagen airport on Monday were the most serious attack yet on its critical infrastructure and linked them to a series of suspected Russian drone incursions and other disruptions across Europe, according to a Reuters report.

“The number, size, flight patterns, time over the airport. All this together … indicates that it is a capable actor. Which capable actor, I do not know,” Danish police inspector Jens Jespersen told reporters at a press conference. The drones in Denmark reportedly came from multiple directions, turning their lights on and off for several hours before disappearing.

Sightings of two or three large drones near Copenhagen airport late on Monday halted all take-offs and landings for nearly four hours. The drone incursions caused about 100 flight cancellations and disrupting travel for roughly 20,000 passengers.

Oslo airport in Norway was also shut for three hours  after two drones were observed there.
