JARUS discusses future BVLOS work at bi-annual meeting

UAS/RPAS regulators and experts gathered from 25 to 29 March 2019 for the bi-annual Plenary Meeting of the Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS).which took place at the International Congress Centre in Katowice (Poland). The meeting discussed future tasks, cooperation with ICAO and the outcome of the Working Group sessions leading in the coming weeks to the publication of “JARUS OPS – Category B Operations” and the “SORA Standard Scenario – BVLOS in rural environment with air risk mitigated by visual observers”, as well as the launch of the External Consultation for “JARUS Recommendation UAS RPC CAT A and CAT B” and the Standard Scenario “BVLOS in rural environment and in segregated airspace”.

The JARUS Community elected Jukka Hannola from the Transport and Communications Agency (Finland) as new JARUS Chair.

Yves Morier, former Chair stated: “In the last years the interest for JARUS has increased rapidly and the recently published “Specific Operations Risk Assessment – SORA” can be considered as the JARUS Flagship and is being used by Authorities and applicants around the globe”.

China will host the next JARUS Plenary Meeting in Chengdu from 14 to 18 October 2019.
